Meet Mercy... her life started full of tragedy. Her mom died while giving birth to Mercy, so her grandmother took her in to live with her. But Mercy's grandma passed quickly and she was only with her for about a year. Mercy then was taken in by her father, who had found work in the West Pokot area about 60 miles from Kitale. He worked for a missionary couple there and things looked good for Mercy, her older sister and their father. Until one day he was killed by an arrow - we're not sure if it was an intentional killing or a horrible accident.. Regardless it left at 2 and a half, Mercy was orphaned. The missionary couple took both girls in and they attended a school in West Pokot. Some time later the missionary couple that the girls were living with were tragically killed in a car accident.
Our partners were visiting a school in that area with their daughter, whose name is also Mercy, when they heard about the girls. Mercy's older sister had been taken in by a Catholic Charity, and our Mercy was extremely sick. It was decided that Mercy would come to Seed's to receive medical care that was not available to her in West Pokot - she never returned, but it was decided she would be better with our partners at Seed's. She has remained there ever since. There is still hope that one day she will be reunited with her sister. But in the meantime Mercy has thrived at Seed's Children's Home. When we met her she didn't have a sponsor and one of our travelers on our very first trip took on her sponsorship. Recently that sponsor has had some serious health issues and has requested that we find Mercy a new sponsor. So we are looking for someone that will come alongside this amazing young lady - that in-spite of a life that began with years of tragedy has found joy and love - and has made the most of all that has been given to her through Seed's.
