We met Vivian's sister, Patience, during the trip to Mt Elgon for the Jigger removal clinic. She came in need of serious medical treatment for one of her feet. When we inquired about Patience, we were told that her mother passed away in 2010 and her father left the two girls in the care of an aunt. He did not have a job and had no means to care for Vivian and Patience.. Their father was full of shame for not being able to care for his daughters and threatened that if their aunt (Sarah), did not take both girls something bad might happen to them. Out of concern for the girls welfare Sarah took them in. Sarah volunteers as a teacher at a local school and is sometimes gifted a small sum of money for her work but it is very unstable and she has not been paid for months now. With the two girls and one of her own, Sarah struggles to put food on the table and the girls rarely go to school. Because of Patience needed need for medical care, we have already moved her into the orphanage even without a sponsor, leaving Vivian with her aunt. It is the aunt's and our desire to see these sisters stay together. If we can get a sponsor for Vivian both girls will be together and receive all their basic needs, as well as medical care and a chance at a good education... things that Vivian currently cannot receive. Vivian longs to go to school and have a safe home with Patience, We need a sponsor for both girls; would you partner with MAF and sponsor one of these beautiful girls. They both are in great need and deserve a better life, a happy home to live in. Would you be able change one of these girls' lives for the better? Thank you for helping and becoming an American Mum or Dad to Patience.
We currently don't even have a photo of Vivian - this photo is of a child much like Vivian, living in a remote village out in the bush of Rift Valley area of Kenya. Once we have a sponsor for her we will be able to pick her up and get a real photo of her. This is a first for us... to post without an actual photo - but the location of Vivian makes a photo right now not possible. Thank you for understanding. - dw
