UPDATE: Maurene is now 16 and in Form 3, which is the 11th grade for us. She has really done well at Seed's Children's Home, coming out of her shell and letting her personality show. She loves living in a safe place with so many sisters (and brothers) and going to high school. When we chatted with her recently she said she enjoys working at the "shamba" (farm) and hopes to go into Agricultural Engineering after she graduates. We're hoping to find her a new sponsor that wants to connect through letters; encouraging her as she goes through high school and letting her know she matters. Are you that special person for her?
ORIGINAL STORY: Maurene is the eight year old younger sister of Elizabeth. She is in the first grade and hopes to be a teacher some day. She is a very quiet girl who doesn't answer any of the questions we ask; her older sister Elizabeth does the talking for her. However, at one point, when asked if she would like to live in the orphanage she remained silent for quite some time, not making eye contact with us, but finally lifted her head for a quick nod "yes." Maurene is a very shy little 8 year old girl who is in need of someone to believe in her.
